Cloud Eggs Trending Breakfast

I love a gimmick. And I love eggs, so when I saw cloud eggs trending on Instagram, on Twitter, on actual legitimate news sites I leapt at the chance to try them. These beautiful pillowy concoctions are mesmerising. No two cloud eggs are the same and the golden egg whites looks similar to delicious meringue topping.

But cloud eggs look prettier than they taste. Seriously, they're nasty, y'all. They've got the runny yolk of eggs fried sunny side up. They've got the soft whites of poached eggs. But the texture? It's like eating egg-flavoured cotton candy. Barf, barf, barf. I couldn't even get past the texture to try more than two forkfuls. This is one trend that needs to die quickly. These hyped up eggs are fine for looking at. Just don't put them in your mouth!

You don't have to take my word for it. Go ahead and try cloud eggs for yourself. They're super easy to make and cotton candy textured eggs might be your thing! If you do try them, be sure to leave a comment and let me know what you think. I can't be the only one who thinks they're overrated and gross!

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 220c/430f
  2. Separate one egg
  3. Whisk the whites until firm
  4. Spoon the egg whites into a cast iron dish or onto a baking tray. Use the spoon to make a well and pour the yolk into the well.
  5. Bake for 5 to 8 minutes until the whites are golden and the top of the yolk is just set. (Bake for longer if you don't like runny yolks.)
  6. Season well with salt and pepper and your favourite egg seasonings.
  7. Serve and be disgusted.
