Learn the 5 telltale signs of blogger burn out and how to spot them creeping into your blog!

It happens to veteran bloggers and it happens to newbie bloggers. It happens to food bloggers and fashion bloggers, lifestyle bloggers and tech bloggers. It happens to bloggers in the UK and bloggers in Asia. It happens to female bloggers and it happens to male bloggers. It happens to thirty-something bloggers and it happens to bloggers in their 60s. No matter what you blog about, no matter where you live, you could be effected by blogger burn out.

Blogger burn out is when a blogger simply stops blogging and it's happened to me on more than one occasion. I like to think of blogger burn out being a bit like a form of depression, and as such, the symptoms are similar. Today, I'd like to share 5 telltale signs of blogger burn out so you can spot them before they sneak up on you:

1. A Loss of Interest in Your Blog

It doesn't matter what your subject matter is, if you find yourself suddenly losing interest in your blog, it could be a sign of blogger burn out. Maybe you don't feel like posting much anymore? Does the thought of waking up and writing in your blog feel you with dread? Have you begun to loathe the process? You might be on par for developing blogger burn out.

2. A Feeling of Being Blocked or Uninspired

One of the most difficult things about writing a blog is actually writing it. Coming up with the unique content that your readers will be interested in. If you find yourself feeling blocked or uninspired, blogger burn out could be on the brink of setting in. Try to go for a walk or a drive and clear you head. Stop by your favourite spot to relax, take a journal and a pen and practice a bit of stream of conscious writing. Even doing something as simple as varying your routine could spur enough creativity to get you back into the swing of things.

3. A Lack of Enthusiasm for Blogging

Most of the time, blogging is a thankless task. Even if you're lucky enough to have a hundred-thousand strong readership or a quarter of a million Instagram followers, you often have to put a lot more into blogging than you get out. So ensuring you maintain a level of enthusiasm for your blog is key to eradicating blogger burn out. The moment you begin to feel that enthusiasm wane, you can be sure burn out is on the brink.

4. A Feeling of Inadequacy or Worthlessness

Blogging by its very nature is extremely competitive and competition is the perfect environment for cultivating feelings of inadequacy or worthlessness. Every successful bloggers needs and element of confidence in themselves and also in their brand and their blog. As soon as that gets questioned or feels absent, blogger burn out isn't far behind. It's helpful to set up your own parameters for your blog success in order to keep a clear indication of how adequate you actually are. Define your own worth and no one can make you feel worthless.

5. A Feeling of Obligation Over Genuine Interest

As soon as the hobby begins to feel like a chore, it's time to ditch it. The same goes for blogging. When it becomes a job and a task to come to the blog and to post and engage with your community, it's probably a clear indication that burn out has set in. Find ways to keep the spirit alive and the interest strong and you'll be a shoo in for never succumbing to burn out.
