Making Time (& energy!) For It All

Welcome to the Blogging Crash Course!

Helping you grow your blog into the powerhouse you know it can be!

Making time and energy for it all: a look at a day in the life of a stay at home mum from www.anyonita-nibbles.com
Strictly speaking, I know this isn't one of my typical blogging crash course posts. Instead of looking at things you can do to your blog to make it better, I wanted to talk about balance. One aspect of Anyonita Nibbles that is missing from this blog is a bit more insight into who I am and what my family life is like. While thinking of ways to share more of me with all of you, I thought starting at the center would help. I hope you enjoy this glimpse into my life.

Gluten Free Coriander Mesquite Barbecue Chicken with Roasted Fries & Bacon Aioli Recipe

Coriander Mesquite Barbecue Chicken with Roasted Fries & Bacon Aioli Recipe

I'd been meaning to make bacon aioli for a month before I finally got around to it. Before Callum was born, the husband and I used to have our version of fish and chips--fried shrimp with roasted fries and aioli--almost weekly. Purely delicious. But since Callum has a suspected shellfish allergy, we've stopped having it and I hadn't made aioli since before I was pregnant. Then, a few months ago, we went out for dinner to a local burger joint and had sweet potato fries with bacon aioli and I knew I needed to recreate it!

Making mayonnaise (that's what aioli is) is dead easy and if you've not tried it, you should give it a go! I love that this bacon aioli is much creamier and firmer than shop-bought mayo. I served it with roasted fries, but it would be equally good slathered on bread in a bacon sandwich or even on a burger bun!

I also paired it with that delicious coriander mesquite barbecue chicken up there. The chicken is wrapped with coriander and bacon and baked and then smothered with barbecue sauce and cheese and baked again until the cheese melts. It's delicious and it's my take on that Pinterest favorite, Monterey Chicken.

Most importantly, this is an easy dish to make for weeknight dining and you'll find a million uses for the bacon aioli! Trust me!

Oktoberfest Stew with German Lager Recipe

Nestled along the banks of Georgia's Chattahoochee River lies a little-known Bavarian inspired town called Helen. Done up in the style of quintessential Alpine villages, Helen sits in a valley of the Blue Ridge Parkway and attracts thousands of visitors each year, longing for a taste of Bavaria. I first visited Helen as a student at UNCG one summer and fell in love with the town's kitsch souvenir shops. One of the things I loved most about Helen was the chain of German restaurants offering up all manner of tasty treats from Deutschland. The dish that caught my attention, though was a hearty bowl of Eintopf or stew served with hand torn, rustic German bread and a mini pewter Steinkrug of the beer used to make the stew. Before eating, you're meant to pour the beer into the soup or drizzle it over the bread. Unfortunately, because I was under 21 years old at the time of my visit, my stew came with an empty stein! I've not been back to Helen since, but I've thought about that stew (and the schnitzel I had!) often and wanted to try to recreate it. When shopping for the ingredients for this, I couldn't find bratwurst at my grocery store, so I thought I'd bring two nations together and use Polish kielbasa instead. I think the two sausages are so similar in texture and taste that you get the same result and we quite enjoyed it.

Gluten Free Crispy Honeyed Soy Chicken Wings Recipe

These wings make excellent party food or tailgating grub!  They're the perfect combination of sweet, sticky and crispy! You won't be able to eat just one..

I'm a wings kinda girl. I can barely go past a pizza place without having a hankering for them. I prefer them with lashings of buffalo sauce and fiery chili. My husband, on the other hand, doesn't share my affinity for hot food. He much prefers the demure sweetness of barbecue wings. So the last time we wanted wings, I wanted a way to satisfy us both. Usually I'll make a couple fiery and a couple barbecue, but this time, I cloaked the wings in a sweet and sticky, finger lickin' sauce with just a bit of unexpected heat.

There's no chili in this recipe, but the wings still have a slight kick. Taking inspiration from black pepper curries of the Far East, I used just a bit of freshly ground black pepper, potent enough to satisfy my lust for fiery heat without making the husband sweat bullets.

The other thing that makes these wings ultra endearing is their crispyness. In fact, that was the first thing my husband commented on. You get that classic wings crunch with these. No soggy, soft skin. That's even with slathering them with sauce! Have I got you hooked yet?

1 SEO Tip that will Improve Your Food Blog Overnight

Written by: on

Welcome to the Blogging Crash Course!

Helping you grow your blog into the powerhouse you know it can be!

1 SEO tip that will improve your food blog overnight from www.anyonita-nibbles.com
Blogging can be quite competitive. Surprisingly so. I belong to a number of private blogging forums and groups and it seems there's not a week that passes by that someone isn't asking for advice on how to get their blog to perform better in search engines.

When Google and blogger/PR companies introduced a way for bloggers to make money, the urgency to get on the first page of Google became the driving force behind many posts.

I know bloggers who won't publish posts that won't go viral. I know bloggers who remove posts after a month if they've not gone viral.

It's a sad reality, but blogging has quickly become a commodity. But that's what it is and the best way to get or maintain a well-performing blog is to get your SEO in shipshape and seen as an authoritative figure in your chosen area. The tip I'm going to share with you well help with getting your blog recognized as an authority on search engines. Once you achieve and maintain that with your blog, you'll see it regularly improving and you'll get more traffic.

Gluten Free Halloween Sticky Toffee Cupcakes with Pumpkin Buttercream and Halloween Cupcake Toppers

Classic British sticky toffee pudding gets paired with rich pumpkin buttercream in this whimsical Halloween cupcakes recipe!
Halloween Sticky Toffee Cupcakes with Pumpkin Buttercream from www.anyonita-nibbles.com
Makes 12 to 18 cupcakes

These spooky cupcakes with their whimsical Halloween toppers would be perfect for a Halloween party! They're easy to make--the sponge is light and sweetened with dates and the frosting is a moreish buttercream made with pumpkin puree and lightly spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg.

The sponge is a basic sticky toffee pudding. Sticky toffee pudding is a classic British dessert made with dates and muscovado sugar. It's one of my favorite desserts and every time we go to a pub or restaurant here, I have to have it if it's on the menu.

I made my own pumpkin puree because it's hard to come by the Libby's stuff in the UK, but if you wanted to cut corners, you could use shop bought puree, instead. I have to admit that the buttercream is one of my favorite aspects of this dessert.

The set of 4 cupcake toppers will be available for you to download tomorrow, so be sure to come back for them!
