Palmiers sort of have an identity crisis--they are known by so many different names: pig's ear, elephant ear, palm leaves, coeur de France, French hearts, shoe-soles and even glasses. It doesn't matter what you call them, you'll be too busy devouring them to say much of anything apart from "Yum!" and "OMG!".

Beyond not knowing what name they want to be called, they also don't know what they want to even be. Are they a cookie? Are they a pastry? What are they?! I think these gluten-free cinnamon sugar palmiers are delicious; especially when dunked into a cup of milky tea or a frothy latte. These are total "Yassssssss" cookies.

There are two names any foodie Francophile knows: Julia Childs and Larousse. According to the Larousse Gastronomique (an entire food encyclopedia, y'all) a palmier is:

A small pastry made of a sugared and double-rolled sheet of puff pastry cut into slices, the distinctive shape of which resembles the foliage of a palm tree, first made at the beginning of the 20th century.

Here are 9 gluten-free game day snacks, perfect for munching while you watch the big game!
Here are 9 gluten-free game day snacks, perfect for munching while you watch the big game!

Some people watch the Superbowl for the commercials, some watchit for the action, others watch it for the half-time show, but to me what makes the Superbowl worthy of spending a day lounging around in front of the TV is a good spread of snacks. These 9 gluten-free game day snacks are the perfect foods to offer your guests, especially if you have coeliacs (celiacs) who'll be attending!
Usually, a good Superbowl snack spread consists of a variety of potato chips and dips, a token veggie and fruit platter, chilled beverages (usually of the alcoholic persuasion) and easy-to-eat snacks like hot wings and chicken nuggets. Truthfully, though, there are no rules about what can land on your table for your Superbowl party. Just choose a variety of easy-to-eat, crowd-pleasing options.

I've trolled back through my archives to find 9 perfect snack recipes for you that are gluten-free and delicious! Make them as the recipe intends and no one will know they're made without gluten; that's a promise! Or if you don't need to avoid gluten in your diet, just use your normal gluten ingredients. Make all 9 of these dishes for an epic Superbowl snack spread or pick and choose a few favourites instead. Don't forget to add drinks to your shopping list--and if you're sticking with beer, remember to search for a gluten-free beer! When it comes to crisps or potato chips, cookies and snack cakes, check the ingredients and avoid anything with wheat, rye or barley as these are unsuitable for people who can't have gluten. Go whole hog on a fruit and veggie platter -- fresh fruit and vegetables are always gluten-free!

With these 9 snack recipes as a starting point, you'll be pleasantly surprised at how easy it will be to create a snack station everyone will enjoy or the next big game day!

The toughest time for being a Coeliac is lunch time. The options are just paltry, so having a steady stream of options help. This recipe for prawn mayonnaise is easy and quick to make. You can eat it fresh or you can store it in the fridge for a few days or make enough sandwiches for the week ahead to save time. This easy gluten-free prawn mayo sandwich recipe is the time-saving recipe you need. I've added in some fresh cucumber but you could use lettuc, red onion or even radish if you prefer. Serve each shrimp sandwich with crisps or potato chips.

Gluten-Free Vegan Stir Fried Peas & Peppers

January is a month-long celebration of the vegan diet. Veganuary seeks to raise awareness of the vegan diet and what it means to not eat any animals or animal products. I don't often eat vegan food, but it's nice to shake things up every now and then. I love these sweet peas and peppers and the smoked paprika adds an extra depth and gives this dish a Spanish feel.

This stir-fried pea dish makes a great vegan lunch option or you could increase the portions and serve it as a side dish or even a main course. If vegan food isn't your forte, try topping it with a runny fried egg or folding through some sliced chorizo or bacon, too with feta crumbled over top.

Try something different this January by incorporating more vegan meals into your meal plan!
Try something different this January by incorporating more vegan meals into your meal plan!

This time of year, many of us tally up all the ways we'd like to improve ourselves over the course of the next 12 months. We set aside lofty aspirations of self-improvement touching on everything from eating better to getting fit. Whether you are of the inclination to make resolutions or not, science consistently tells us that reducing the amount of animal products and meat we consume (especially red meats) is one of the best things we can do for our bodies.

In light of this, and in an effort to spread more about the benefits of veganism, January has been dubbed Veganuary--a time for encouraging others to break with the traditions of meat at every meal and to embrace, even if for a limited time, a plant-based diet.  Here are 3 simple and delicious dishes you can try to introduce yourself to the vegan diet. As always, all three of these recipes are gluten-free, too!
