Mulled Wine Moscow Mules

'Tis the season for festive cheer and, if you're in Britain, loads of mince pies and Christmas cake! When you can't have gluten in your diet, mince pies can be more daunting than festive. Thankfully, this year, Waitrose is providing Coeliacs and gluten and wheat allergy sufferers options for Christmas food with a range of free from mince pies and Christmas cakes.

When you pair Christmas cakes with indulgent mulled wine, you'll have a match made in festive heaven! This easy recipe yields two very strong mugs of mulled wine. The quick cooking time means the alcohol doesn't burn off, and despite adding a bit of sugar to the brew, this potion isn't for the under age!

The stars of this mulled wine recipe are the cranberries! We use a combination of halved fresh cranberries and smooth cranberry jam to make a mulled wine that's full of that famous Christmas berry! If you're in America making this recipe, please use cranberry jelly, the kind without the bits of fruit in.

If you prefer a more mellow, easy drinking mulled wine, simply cook it for longer to allow the alcohol to burn off. Serving the mulled wine in Moscow Mules isn't necessary, but it definitely ups the ante on the festive and is quite traditional. These flashy copper mugs are ideal for dishing up this festive grog - just mind yourself; they can get really hot! Once the presents are wrapped and the kids are tucked up in bed, relax with a gluten free mince pie or slice of Christmas cake from Waitrose and sip this heady nectar to get you in the merry mood.
