Nacho Cheese & Purple Basil Gluten Free Gourmet Popcorn

I absolutely love popcorn. It's one of those brilliant snack options that surprisingly isn't all that bad for you and it's especially fun to make at home and to come up with your own unique flavour combinations. When Callum wants to help me make a snack in the kitchen, we often opt for popcorn. Plus, he always gets a proper kick out of seeing the popped kernels ricochet out of the machine.

Last week, I took to Periscope and decided to show about 50 viewers how to make this popcorn. In case you missed it, I've embedded the video below.


For the homemade nacho cheese & purple basil gluten free gourmet popcorn
2 cups of corn kernels
3 tablespoons purple basil
4 tablespoons nacho cheese powder
sea salt
sunflower oil*

*If you are making your popcorn on a stove top, you'll need some oil.

Homemade Nacho Cheese & Purple Basil Popcorn

  1. Combine the nacho cheese powder, purple basil and as much sea salt as you'd like in a small bowl.
  2. Scoop the corn kernels and pop them into your popcorn maker. If you are making the popcorn on the stove, add the oil first and allow to heat before adding the kernels.
  3. Place the butter in the well over your popcorn machine to allow it melt whilst the kernels pop, or melt it in the microwave for a few seconds. Keep a close eye on it if you melt it in the microwave and don't let it splatter.
  4. After the popcorn has popped, pour over the melted butter and toss with the cheese powder, basil and salt.
