New Year's Eve Gluten Free Havarti Canapes

One of the best things about New Year's Eve is having a sophisticated late night soiree, passing nibbles and drinks around the room as you count down the end of the year and start of a new one. No New Year's Eve party worth attending skimps on the canapes! This recipe is ridiculously easy; there's no cooking involved (unless you decide to go whole hog and make your own homemade chutney) and it's ready to throw together in minutes!

Although I've branded it as being a New Year's Eve recipe, you can easily use it any time of year as an appetiser or canape for any party you find yourself hosting! Go as lavish or as budget on the crispbreads or crackers and the chutney, but do not skimp on the cheese! The cheese is the star of this recipe. I used an indulgent Havarti, from Castello that is so creamy and moreish even the most fussy cheese eater won't be able to resist.

Gluten Free Pistachio & Rose Baklava

At the age of 18, I was desperate to travel the world. I dreamt of leaving America and heading anywhere, passport and camera in hand. As a student at uni, jetsetting off around the world wouldn't be an option until a semester spent studying abroad my final year, so I had to make do with the next best thing: hanging out with international students in my campus's I-House, going to cultural talks and food festivals. It was at one such festival that I fell in love with the sweet, nutty heaven that is baklava.

A #GloriousAdventure with Food

Sunday, November 22, 2015

I love food -- both this food blog and my plus size lifestyle blog are evidence of that. One of  the most incredible things about food is its power to transport you. Tastebuds are shapeshifters, working with scents, they can catapult you to foreign lands, inspiring you to visit, to travel, all off the back of a sweet, floral coconut or the heady potency of spice.

I'm a sucker for a good salad. I'm talking about salads with substance, with more than just a few spindly salad leaves and half chopped tomatoes and cucumbers. Salads that will fill you up and keep you full and that are perfect for any time of year. The roasted butternut squash and quinoa salad recipe I'm going to share with you today is just that type of salad: it's full of goodness and makes for a filling meal ready in just over half an hour.

Visiting Blackpool as a #TravelodgeTourist

Journey with us as we play #TravelodgeTourist in Blackpool and discover some of the city's must-see attractions for a rip-roaring family day out!
A diary of two days spent visiting Blackpool as a #TravelodgeTourist from Anyonita-nibbles.co.uk

What do you think of when you hear the word Blackpool?

Is it the UK's number one destination for hen and stag debauchery? Or perhaps that it's a stomping ground for one of the largest and most invigorating gay communities in the Northwest? Or Strictly, the fact that it's home to one of reality TV's most-loved shows? More than just a seaside resort, Blackpool has been called the Vegas of the UK and while that comparison might be inflating things slightly, it is a splendidly dazzling destination with something for everyone.

How to Make Rubbed Sage with a Plantui Smart Garden

How to use fresh, home-grown sage to make traditional rubbed sage!

How to Make Rubbed Sage

I am extremely excited about today's post! It's my first post utilising the fruits of my Plantui Smart Garden: it's harvest time! The first plant I harvested was my sage! It smelled so delicious whilst it was growing; I couldn't wait to get my hands on it and use it! Just look at how beautiful and vibrant the sage was:

Fresh sage leaves grown in a hydroponic smart garden | Anyonita-nibbles.co.uk

With American Thanksgiving right around the corner and Christmas not far behind, I thought I'd share a recipe for how to make rubbed sage. Sage features prominently in both Thanksgiving and Christmas meals (usually springing up in stuffing or sausages et cetera) and it's one of my favourite herbs.

Fresh sage leaves from Anyonita-nibbles.co.uk

Rubbed sage is ordinary dried sage that has been rubbed gently to fluff the edges of the leaves or into a fine, fluffy powder. The second way tends to be what's sold commercially--fluffy clouds of sage great in baked goods like savoury scones. But I love sage and prefer it to be a bit less airy, so you'll notice in this recipe that I don't rub the sage as much as you might have expected. Feel free to continue to rub your sage until you're left with a fine powder if that's how you prefer it.

Thursday, October 15, 2015

I absolutely love popcorn. It's one of those brilliant snack options that surprisingly isn't all that bad for you and it's especially fun to make at home and to come up with your own unique flavour combinations. When Callum wants to help me make a snack in the kitchen, we often opt for popcorn. Plus, he always gets a proper kick out of seeing the popped kernels ricochet out of the machine.

Last week, I took to Periscope and decided to show about 50 viewers how to make this popcorn. In case you missed it, I've embedded the video below.

It's like an entire city, effortlessly gliding across the face of the water. Behind its facade of hundreds of balconies, in the heart of the ship lies more restaurants than you could count on one hand, pools, spas, bars, shops, theatres and more.

We were invited to take a tour of Princess Cruises's Royal Princess ship and sample a luxurious three-course menu. Over the course of our five hours onboard, the word luxury would escape from my lips time and time again. Before then, a virgin to the open seas and someone who had never set foot in a cruise ship, I was blown away by the sheer vastness of it, the luxury and the glamour.

One of the most frustrating things about living in the UK is the sheer lack of sunlight we get. Pinterest and Instagram Updates for Autumn 2015

Thursday, August 27, 2015

Big changes are underway from two of the leading social media platforms this autumn!
Instagram vertical photos; Pinterest save pins | Anyonita-nibbles.co.uk

Have you been prompted to download the Instagram update on your phone yet? You might want to hurry and do it to take advantage of the biggest change to hit Instagram since Facebook bought the platform in 2012!

Instagram Allows Vertical Photos

You can now post vertical photos to your Instagram account! That's right, the days of being forced to shoot your photos in a boring square are now over. The update was rolled out on 26 August and has been making international business news on popular websites such as Time.

Only time will tell if people start flocking to the new vertical layout, or if it will feel too unlike Instagram for it to catch on, but one thing is certain: with Pinterest's natural inclination to portrait style photos (read why portrait photos work best on Pinterest), and now Instagram's adaptation of this layout, portrait photos will become increasingly important for marketing.

One Year On, New Ventures

Monday, August 17, 2015

Tomorrow, 18 August, marks one year since I stopped being a stay at home mom and full time food blogger. It's been a crazy, fun, exhausting transition, but one that I'm still extremely glad I made. A year ago, I thought only a few things would change; I wasn't prepared for the full-on change that came.

I'll be honest, keeping up with food blogging was tough. Suddenly, I went from sharing new recipes three times a week and posting five times a week, to barely getting three posts out a month. And I miss(ed) it. So I had to do some big thinking. Some hard thinking. And some compromising.

And I've decided that since I couldn't manage one blog and a full time job, I'd try to juggle two! Not entirely correct, although there's a bit of earnestness in that statement. Let me clarify:

Anyonita Nibbles isn't going anywhere. I'll still be here posting and sharing recipes and product and restaurant reviews with you because, a girl's gotta eat. But I won't commit to doing it anywhere near the frequency I once was.

I'll be honest: the amount of time required to develop, test, photograph and write up original recipes whilst still juggling a full time job, being a mommy and a wife, is more than any of us are allotted in a day. Hell, it's more than we get in two days. It's a lot of work. And I can't swing it.

So, I'm easing the pressure. I'll probably post here weekly or every two weeks. That's my goal. In the meantime, you can find me over on my new venture: www.plussizelife.co.uk, where I'm writing a lifestyle, food, fashion and travel blog for curvy women. The blog has an emphasis on self-acceptance and self-love. It's a feel-good project and I think it's going to go well.

Butterfly chicken breast. The easiest way to ensure juicy chicken and one of the first ways I learned how to make chicken breast. In the Art Deco kitchen of one of the Quad residence halls on the UNCG campus my sophomore year at uni, my roommate stands over a plate with a fruit knife, nearly halving chicken breasts. Although her technique was amateurish, the chicken was incredible and it surely one of the best things ever to come out of a college dorm.
